International animal fats and oils, August 1, 2024

Livestock slaughter slowed in Europe in July, leading to lower animal fats and proteins availability, while hot summer weather impacted quality, sources told Fastmarkets.

Sources reported edible tallow max 2% free fatty acids (FFA) trading at €1,010 ($1,093) per tonne DDP Northwest Europe (NWE), while a mix with lower quality fats was heard trading below €1,000 per tonne.

Category 3 animal fats max 3-5% FFA fats were quoted around €890 per tonne in Spain, while 10-12% FFA was priced at €830 per tonne in Spain and €855-860 per tonne in NWE.

Prices for category 1 and 2 fats moved up a bit, with selling interest reported at €760 per tonne in NWE.

Prices for poultry fats were stable at €1,000 per tonne DDP NWE for 2% FFA and at €930-940 per tonne DDP for 5-7% FFA.
