Diminished US dog and cat food export weighs on poultry by-product pet grade

Limited trade volume was reported in US animal proteins for Thursday August 8. Pressure from lower soybean meal prices and buyer pushback has kept pricing levels steady to lower for the week, though Thursday’s trade values remained within the previously set price ranges.

The US Census Bureau’s dog and cat food exports report, released on August XX, indicated that June 2024 dog and cat food exports were valued at $214.61 million, higher by $5.71 million, or 2.73%, than in May.

The year-to-date value for the first half of 2024 was at $1.25 billion, higher by 2.67%, or 32.51 million, from the same respective time in 2023.

The year-to-date volume for dog and cat food exports for the first five months was 422,031 tonnes, 2.67% above 2023 for the respective time, due to higher exports in March, April and June.
