The US Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) Petroleum Supply Monthly report for May, released on July 31, showed that the total shipment of renewable diesel (RD) and biodiesel was up by 1% compared with April.
In May, 2.963 million barrels of RD and 240,000 barrels of biodiesel were shipped to the US West Coast. Biodiesel shipments were down by 12% in May, following an 11% rise in April. RD shipments increased by 1% in May after holding steady at 2.926 million barrels in April.
RD is shipped by rail and barge in the US, while biodiesel is only delivered by rail.
Barge/tanker RD shipments from the Gulf Coast dropped by 40% to 974,000 barrels in May from 1.6 million barrels in April. The amount of RD moved by rail from the Gulf Coast to the West Coast increased by 8% to 827,000 barrels.
