Four railcars of renderer-grade bleachable fancy tallow (BFT) traded down to 48.75 cents per lb Chicago basis on Monday August 12.
US technical tallow also moved lower on the day to 50 cents per lb, Chicago basis, on a 10-railcar trade at that price.
The price move on Monday narrowed the gap between technical tallow and refined, bleached and deodorized (RBD) soybean oil, which was assessed on Monday at 49 cents per lb, FOB Illinois.
Tallow supply levels were generally reported as steady to tight, with sources anticipating a slight increase in availability in September. Meanwhile, spot material remains especially “well sold,” according to one source.
Prices for distillers’ corn oil (DCO) were lower on Monday on pressure from weakness in the soybean oil market and lower prices paid into the Midwestern delivered markets.
