Organic feed prices slightly lower; freight costs buoy East Coast prices

Organic feed markets were mostly unchanged, but organic wheat and corn continued to lose some value, according to Fastmarkets’ Midwest pricing. Buying practices remain unchanged as end users seek to minimize carry costs.

Buyer sentiment – based on an assumption of plenty – has emboldened buyers and kept merchandiser’s trucks busy. Rail freight continues to move freely, so buyers feel little impetus to build their inventories over logistical concerns. 

Merchandisers tell Fastmarkets that there may be a whipsaw effect in organic bread wheat as buyers – especially East Coast buyers – find themselves going farther afield for loads that meet quality specs. It would likely be next year before this becomes a reality for organic bread wheat buyers, if at all. Knock-on effects in organic feed wheat markets are a…
