US animal protein prices were flat on Thursday August 15. Most participants said lower prices for Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) soybean meal continue to pressure animal feed-related products, though limited volume left prices stagnant for the day.
Ruminant bloodmeal relative to soybean meal
Ruminant bloodmeal (BM) prices relative to the CBOT soybean meal futures were lofty at the start of 2024. The comparative value moved more in-line with traditional levels for the month of May and June, but adjusted higher into July as soybean meal prices dropped and BM remained lofty.
For the week to August 9, ruminant bloodmeal, fob Missouri River was $1,025 per short ton, 318% relative to CBOT soybean meal of $322.60 per ton. This is generally in-line with the three-year average of 309% for the month of August.
