Corn
US corn sales for 2023/24 were reported at a marketing-year low of 120,500 tonnes in the week to August 8, down by 75% from the previous week and by 66% from the prior four-week average, landing below the USDA’s expected range of 300,000-550,000 tonnes, USDA data showed on Thursday August 15.
Many of the increases came from Colombia (173,900 tonnes), Portugal (51,000 tonnes), Honduras (42,800 tonnes), Mexico (28,300 tonnes) and Japan (8,500 tonnes). These gains were partly offset by reductions for unknown destinations (163,500 tonnes) and El Salvador (29,500 tonnes).
Export sales for the 2024/25 crop season were 800,500 tonnes, above the USDA’s projections of 150,000-800,000 tonnes. Net sales were recorded for unknown destinations (345,000 tonnes), Mexico (257,900 tonnes), Costa Rica (58,600 tonnes), Japan (50,800 tonnes) and El Salvador (22,500 tonnes).
