Traded volumes in the US animal proteins market were limited on Tuesday August 20. A few price changes were reported, and most items were under price pressure due to lower soybean meal futures and expectations of an increased slaughter for most proteins into the end of the third quarter.
Wider price ranges for limited volumes were reported for several animal protein products due to the upcoming Labor Day holiday. Some market sources said they were trading ahead of the holiday, while others said they were waiting until after the holiday to acquire inventory.
Fastmarkets assessed ruminant meat and bonemeal, Texas Panhandle at $250-310 per short ton on Tuesday.
Multiple truckloads of ruminant meat and bonemeal, pure beef, Texas Panhandle were reportedly sold at as high as $365 per short ton in the week to Friday August 16.
