US BFT packer, CWG prices lower despite limited supply

Fifteen railcars of packer-grade bleachable fancy tallow (BFT) traded lower in the US on Wednesday August 21 at 45.75 cents per lb, down by 75 basis points from Fastmarkets’ assessment of 46.5 cents per lb on Tuesday August 20.

Meanwhile, prices for choice white grease (CWG) in the FOB Missouri River market were assessed lower on Wednesday at 43-45 cents per lb, based on trades heard done at both ends of the range.

Sources continued to observe that the US fats markets have been relatively quiet recently, with minimal trading and little movement in either direction.

Additionally, some sources have reported that obtaining material at specific quality standards remained challenging because lingering summer weather and higher temperatures can affect product quality and storage conditions.
