Demand for canola oil in US biofuel sector remains strong in 2024

Demand for canola oil as a feedstock in the US has steadily increased in recent years. This is evidenced by feedstock demand data provided by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and the Energy Information Administration (EIA).

CARB data shows canola oil taking a larger proportion of the biodiesel feedstock mix. Canola oil accounted for 8% of the feedstock used to produce biodiesel in the California market in 2022. The amount increased to 21% in 2023 and to 32% in the first quarter of 2024.
