Rising RD capacity in US sets monthly feedstock consumption record in June: EIA

Biodiesel and renewable diesel (RD) capacity in the US increased in June, according to data released on Friday August 30 by the US Energy Information Agency (EIA). Rising capacity led to an all-time high in monthly feedstock consumption.

Biomass-based diesel (BBD) capacity reached a record high of 6.9 billion gallons per year, or 577 million gallons per month in June. Rapid growth in the RD sector has come from major oil companies looking to take advantage of market opportunities in the RD sector.

Biodiesel capacity was unchanged month on month in June at 2.022 billion gallons after increasing in both April and May. But biodiesel capacity has been on a slow decline since 2022 and is down by 2.9% year on year.

RD capacity increased by 322 million gallons in June to 4.9 billion gallons, up by 7% from May and by 32% from June 2023, as Phillips 66’s Rodeo renewable diesel plant reached full production capacity.
