Biodiesel margins rise, but window of opportunity limited
Biodiesel margins continued to rise during the week to Friday November 22. The bean oil/heating oil (BOHO) spread boosted margins by falling to its lowest level since August 27.
Montana Renewables supplied the first shipment of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to Minneapolis-St Paul (MSP) International Airport in the US on Wednesday September 25 for a “symbolic first flight,” the company announced on the same day.
The 7,000 gallons of blended SAF was supplied to Delta Air Lines for flight 2732 to New York’s La Guardia International Airport, with Shell Aviation providing logistics. The SAF was produced from Minnesota-grown winter camelina oil, Montana Renewables said in a press release.
Montana Renewables has capacity for 30 million gallons per year of SAF, and signed a multi-year offtake agreement with Shell Aviation for its production when it commenced operations in May 2023.
Shell Aviation initially said that the SAF produced by Montana Renewables would be used to fulfil supply agreements at Los Angeles International Airport for Delta Air Lines, Alaska Airlines and JetBlue.
