Broiler slaughter in August totaled 812.42 million head, according to the USDA’s Poultry Slaughter report released on Wednesday September 25. This was down by 4.59% year on year and by 1.59% from July; it was also below August levels in 2021-2023.

Broiler slaughter totaled 6.32 billion head in the first eight months of 2024, up by 0.20% from 2023 and by 1.51% from the three-year average.

Commercial broiler weights averaged 6.56 lb in August, up by less than 1% year on year.

Poultry by-product meal (PBPM) production totaled 2.307 billion lb in January-August, up by 3.13% year on year due to the combination of increased slaughter levels and higher broiler weights.
