Chicago tallow, CWG start month slightly lower amid seasonal factors

The US animal fats and waste oils market started the month with a flurry of activity on Tuesday October 1, following a relatively quiet September.

Four railcars of packer-grade bleachable fancy tallow (BFT) traded slightly lower at 45.50 cents per lb Chicago basis on Tuesday, while five cars of renderer-grade BFT traded 1.75 cents per lb lower at 47.00 cents per lb Chicago basis.

Additionally, 10 railcars of technical tallow traded at 50.00 cents per lb Chicago basis.

Previously, sources have indicated that trading volumes in the tallow market remained light, with most activity focused on filling prompt orders to address short-term supply gaps.

However, as cooler weather settles over Midwestern tallow production areas, participants have noted a slight increase in supplies as free fatty acid (FFA) issues ease, coinciding with a pick-up in buying for the second half of October.
