The US Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) Petroleum Supply Monthly report released Monday September 30, showed that July interregional shipments of renewable diesel (RD) and biodiesel to the US West Coast was down by 12% compared with June, with RD deliveries falling to a six-month low.
The EIA divides the US into five Petroleum Administration for Defense Districts (PADDs). The West Coast region is PADD 5, and, due to policy incentives through low-carbon fuel programs in California, Washington and Oregon, nearly all the RD produced within the other four PADD districts is shipped west to satisfy program demands. Biodiesel shipments are much smaller on average.
RD is shipped by rail and barge, while deliveries of biodiesel arrive primarily by rail.
RD shipments totaled 2.753 million barrels in July, down by 13% from June shipments of 3.173 million barrels and a six-month low.
