US cattle slaughter in Q4 remains down year on year

Trading in the US animal proteins market was quiet on Monday October 14, with minimal price changes reported. Several market participants are expected to attend the American Fats and Oils Association (AFOA) conference this week, which should limit trade, Fastmarkets understands.

Fastmarkets’ research team forecasts cattle slaughter at 610,000 head for the week to Saturday October 19, up by 4.10% week on week but down by 4.38% year on year.

Cattle slaughter finished last week at an estimated 586,000 head, down by 4.9% from the corresponding week in 2023.
