US fats markets quiet; cattle slaughter set to decline by end of November

The US fats market was quiet on Monday October 21, with no changes to start the new week.

In other news, Fastmarkets’ research team forecast cattle slaughter at 615,000 head for the week ending Saturday October 26, up by 1.15% week on week but down by 3.1% year on year.

Cattle slaughter finished the past week at an estimated 608,000 head, down by nearly 4.7% from the same week in 2023 but up by 3.8% from the week prior.

The year-to-date total through Saturday October 19 was 25.12 million head, down by 3.8% from 2023.
