Limited price changes and slow trading in the US animal proteins market were reported in the week to Friday October 25, with several market participants attending the North American Rendering Association (NARA) conference in California.

Fastmarkets’ assessment for poultry by-product meal (PBPM), pet grade, Mid-South averaged $605.00 per short ton in the week to Friday, up by 3.48% from the previous week’s average.

Excess inventories have tightened due to shipping backups at big US ports and recent hurricanes, but stocks were not completely cleaned up at some locations, Fastmarkets heard.

September US broiler, turkey slaughter
Broiler slaughter in September totaled 769.67 million head, according to the USDA’s Poultry Slaughter report released on Thursday October 24. This was down by 5.55% year on year but up by 1.13% from August.
