Biodiesel margins rise, but window of opportunity limited
Biodiesel margins continued to rise during the week to Friday November 22. The bean oil/heating oil (BOHO) spread boosted margins by falling to its lowest level since August 27.
Cash market trading in the US for vegetable oils closed the week on a quiet note on Friday October 25, with some minor price changes noted.
Fastmarkets assessed sunflower oil, RBD, Minnesota/North Dakota for nearby delivery at $0.7600 per lb on Friday, up from $0.7500 per lb previously.
Basis indications for canola oil dropped slightly in the week, down from a premium of 11 cents per lb above the benchmark soybean oil futures contract in Chicago to a premium of 10 cents per lb as of Friday.
On the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, December soybean oil futures settled the Friday session at $0.4415 per lb, down by $0.0015 per lb on Thursday.
Fastmarkets assessed canola oil, refined, bleached and deodorized (RBD), fob Los Angeles at $0.5465 per lb on Friday, down from $0.5533 per lb a day earlier.
