Fastmarkets assessed poultry by-product meal pet food, US Midwest at $550-600 per short ton, down from $600-675 per ton on Tuesday October 29. One market source in the region reported buyer pushback due to increased soybean meal inventories and diminished export interest.
US avian flu update
Year-to-date US poultry headcounts affected by highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in 2024 are significantly higher compared with the respective period in 2023, according to the “Confirmed HPAI Detections” webpage by the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS).
A total of 31.95 million poultry were confirmed to be affected by avian flu as of Wednesday, up by 72.07%, or 8.93 million head, year on year.
