Biodiesel margins rise, but window of opportunity limited
Biodiesel margins continued to rise during the week to Friday November 22. The bean oil/heating oil (BOHO) spread boosted margins by falling to its lowest level since August 27.
The price for bleachable fancy tallow (BFT) in the Brazilian market rose by 0.40 Reais per kg in the week to Thursday October 31, following an increase in soyoil futures on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange that continued to underpin domestic soyoil prices in the South American country.
The price of BFT, max 3.5% free fatty acids (FFA), CIF Sao Paulo, inclusive of 12% tax, went up to 6.50-6.70 Reais per kg in the week.
Market sources reported that Brazilian soap producers were willing to pay more by the end of the week, after local biofuel market participants had raised their offers a week earlier.
The main reference for biodiesel producers, the price for BFT, max 5% FFA, CIF Sao Paulo, inclusive of tax, was assessed at 6.10-6.30 Reais per kg, also higher than at the beginning of the week. No deals were heard, however.
