Animal protein prices steady on light trade following Thanksgiving holiday

US animal protein prices were steady on Monday December 2, with market sources reporting limited trade volumes.

Fastmarkets assessed ruminant, bloodmeal, Iowa/Missouri/Nebraska at $950-1,000 per short ton, steady from $950-1,100 per ton on November 27. A trade as high as $1,100 per short ton was reported on porcine, bloodmeal, Missouri River in limited volume, keeping trade values flat.

Hog slaughter
Fastmarkets’ research team forecasts hog slaughter at 2.675 million head in the week to Saturday December 7, up by less than half a percent from the respective week in 2023.
