CWG prices dip slightly; DCO, ethanol production down on week

The US animal fats and oils markets continued to show regional variations on Wednesday December 4, with Gulf prices holding steady to slightly higher this week, while Midwest fats demand remained soft.

Tallow delivered into the US Gulf Coast traded steady on Wednesday at 45.5-46.0 cents per lb, following a slight increase in the lower end of the price range the previous day.

The modest uptick in Gulf tallow contrasts with recent declines in bleachable fancy tallow (BFT) prices in the Chicago market earlier this week, where sources continued to cite soft demand and buyers largely covered for the remainder of December.

But some sources have noted that not much additional material is being offered in the Chicago markets, which has helped maintain relative balance despite softer demand.
