Ruminant meat and bonemeal prices lower; cattle feed simulator points to sluggish herd rebuilding

US animal protein prices were steady to lower on Thursday December 5, with price adjustments only indicated for ruminant meat and bonemeal (MBM). Price pressure was communicated from market sources for porcine MBM, but trade prices were rangebound for the day.

Ruminant MBM prices were conveyed as softer from multiple market sources for the week to Thursday due to a combination of increased US soybean crush, heightening soybean meal stocks and expectations of a substantial soybean harvest in Brazil, which has continued to weigh on Chicago Board of Trade soybean meal prices.

Although highly unusual in the last month of the year, reformulations on poultry feed have been witnessed, according to one market source. However, lower prices for several by-product feed items and increased usage of blended products have led to diminished interest in MBM, adding to already high inventory levels at various locations.
