Soybean oil demand from US biofuel industry expected to suffer through government transition

The transition in the US biofuel market from the Blenders Tax Credit (BTC) to the Clean Fuels Production Credit (CFPC) was not going as planned, Fastmarkets heard on Thursday December 5.

A lack of government guidance on the CFPC has many stand-alone biodiesel producers either shutting down or drastically scaling back production, which meant that these producers were not purchasing soybean oil and other feedstocks.

While the current presidential administration under Joe Biden prepared to give way to incoming President-elect Donald Trump, there were numerous large macro-economic issues taking center-stage. But resolving the CFPC issue was not one of them.
