International animal protein prices rangebound for week

The market was quiet in the week to Thursday December 5, with no changes reported.

Meat and Livestock Australia reported cattle slaughter at 143,428 head in the week to Friday November 29, down by 1,731 head week on week, but up by 19,478 head year on year.

Year-to-date slaughter in Australia was above 6.29 million head, up by 781,707 head or 14.19% from the corresponding period in 2023 and by 30.85% compared with the three-year average. Slaughter in both New Zealand and Australia is widely expected to slow through the remainder of the month and the first week of January due to holiday downtime.
