Grease prices continue to dip; hog slaughter up slightly on week

The US animal fats markets experienced a quiet start on Monday December 9, with little change observed aside from a slight dip in corn oil and grease prices in some FOB Midwest markets.

Choice white grease (CWG) prices declined on Monday to 41-42 cents per lb FOB Missouri River, while yellow grease (YG) also fell to 33-34 cents per lb in the same regional market.

The slight downturn in grease prices was attributed to slower activity in the biofuel sector, reduced rail car movement and softer feed demand, with some reformulation noted.

Additionally, distiller’s corn oil (DCO) traded down by half a cent per lb to 43 cents per lb for spot truck sales FOB Wisconsin for December shipment.

In other news, Fastmarkets’ research team forecasts hog slaughter at 2.65 million head for the week ending December 14, up by 1.84% week on week but down by 1.66% year on year.
