Gulf UCO prices continue to rise, Midwest fats remain ‘soft’

Prices for used cooking oil (UCO) delivered to the US Gulf Coast continued to climb on Tuesday December 10, even as markets softened in other regions.

Sizeable volumes of UCO traded into the Gulf, at 46 cents per lb delivered.

Sources have offered differing perspectives on why Gulf Coast markets have remained strong while the Midwest has experienced downward pressure in recent weeks.

But many agree that the anticipated shift from the Blender’s Tax Credit (BTC) to the Clean Fuel Production Tax Credit (CFPTC) is expected to solidify used cooking oil and other waste fats as the preferred feedstocks.

Outside of the Gulf, choice white grease (CWG) prices in the FOB Missouri River market continued to hover in the range of 41-42 cents per lb. Indications as low as 36-38 cents per lb were heard in the market, though no trades were confirmed before the close.
