US soybean futures slide on strong South American production potential

Most grain prices on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange fell on Tuesday December 17. The January soybean futures contract decreased by 5.25 cents per bushel to settle at $9.76 per bu, while January soybean meal rose by $0.30 per short ton to $287.20 per ton.

Meanwhile, March wheat fell by 5 cents per bu to close at $5.45 per bu, and March corn dropped by 1.50 cents per bu to $4.43 per bu.

Grain prices began the week on mixed footing as traders monitored South American weather conditions during the early stages of the 2024/25 corn and soybean growing seasons, while also assessing the latest grain export inspection data from the USDA and soybean crushing data from the National Oilseed Processors Association (NOPA).
