In a February 6 letter to the new administrator of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Lee Zeldin, a group of bipartisan lawmakers asked the agency to put the US Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) “back on track” and support the growth of biofuels.
The legislators’ letter urged the EPA to establish robust 2026 Renewable Volume Obligations (RVOs) that set implied conventional biofuel levels at a minimum of, if not more than, 15 billion gallons. Advanced RVOs should also be set at volumes that account for the rapid growth of renewable diesel, with an equivalent increase in total volumes, the letter said.
The EPA is slated to release the 2026 RVOs next month following a delay from the prior administration.
