Central Illinois soybean crush margin falls below weekly, yearly levels

In the week to Friday February 7, the soybean crush margin in Central Illinois decreased by 6% week on week and by 19% year on year, according to the USDA’s National Weekly Grain Co-Products Report released on Monday February 10.

In the week to Friday, soybean meal prices rose to $310.50 per short ton, up by 0.1% week on week from $310.30 per ton, but down by 16% year on year.

Soybean prices increased to $10.52 per bushel, up by 1.2% week on week from $10.40 per bu, but down by 12% from a year earlier.

Soybean oil prices dropped to 44.40 cents per lb, down by 0.2% week on week from 44.48 cents per lb and by 9% year on year.

The decline in soybean oil prices led to a crush margin of $1.94 per bu, down by 15 cents per bu compared with the six-week average of $2.09 per bu.
