Strong Demand is Driving Downstream Profits

Both Exxon and Chevron reported robust earnings for the Q3 despite a decline in crude oil prices during the quarter.  Each company pointed to strong gains in their downstream product lines as the source for strong earnings.  The focus now seems to be on refining and marketing and given the strong demand for gasoline and distillates, this could continue to be a profitable environment.
