The majority of the US hide market was steady last week with China tanners pushing for hides to arrive in ports before January 1. Big packer HNS traded from $53 to $54.50, BBS from $43 to $44, HTS from $34 to $36 and BS at $34 FOB plant. The Jacobsen Hide Index closed Friday at $36.15, down from $36.33 a week ago. A few sources reported some tanners are seeing marginal improvement in leather orders, but not enough to change buying patterns….
