USDA Hides and Skins Report

Net sales of 509,200 pieces reported for 2019 were up 11% from the previous week and 10% from the prior four-week average. Whole cattle hide sales totaling 509,300 pieces primarily for China (382,300 pieces, including decreases of 10,900 pieces), Mexico (54,800 pieces, including decreases of 2,900 pieces), South Korea (46,600 pieces, including decreases of 1,200 pieces), Thailand (17,000 pieces, including decreases of 300 pieces), and Brazil (3,900 pieces, including deceases of 800 pieces), were partially offset by reductions for Taiwan (400 pieces) and Japan (400 pieces). Exports of 494,700 pieces reported for 2019 were up 16% from the previous week and 12% from the prior four-week average. Whole cattle hide exports of 493,400 pieces were primarily to China (325,300 pieces), South Korea (76,700 pieces), Mexico (48,200 pieces), Thailand (11,600 pieces), and Brazil (8,500 pieces).

Net sales of 93,800 wet blues for 2019 were down 13% from the previous week and 41% from the prior four-week average. Increases were primarily for Thailand (34,400 unsplit), China (24,000 unsplit, including decreases of 7,600 grain splits), Italy (21,800 grain splits), and Vietnam (13,800 unsplit, including decreases 100 grain splits). For 2020, net sales of 19,400 wet blues were for Thailand (8,000 unsplit), China (7,600 grain splits), and India (3,800 grain splits). Exports of 111,700 wet blues for 2019 were down 25% from the previous week and 23% from the prior four-week average. The primary destinations were Vietnam (78,900 unsplit and 3,300 grain splits), Thailand (14,600 unsplit), China (6,100 unsplit), and Italy (5,400 grain splits). Net sales of splits, 329,100 pounds for 2019, resulting in increases for Vietnam (344,500 pounds), were offset by reductions for Taiwan (15,400 pounds). For 2020, total net sales of 640,500 pounds were for Vietnam. Exports of 349,200 pounds were to Vietnam (281,800 pounds) and Taiwan (67,400 pounds).
