The majority of 2019 hemp producers are continuing on in some capacity in 2020.  Minnesota polled their growers during the annual reporting process and 85% said they intended to grow hemp in 2020.  Minnesota producers have the same problem that many US farmers do, an excess of stored biomass and seemingly no markets.  Minnesota’s hempseed grain production is a part of this number, which is different in states where producers were burned en masse on biomass contracts, with no other markets for hemp.

 

Agricultural crops can be very regional, for the obvious reasons of climate and soils, but also based on the presence of companies that convert harvested crops into cash.  Businesses may establish themselves in a location for a variety of reasons, but these companies that are successfully moving product in agriculture create an entire market ecosystem in their production areas.
