Focus shifts to crop quality as planting slows

 

Crop Progress – Planting begins to wind down 

Corn:

  • 93 percent planted
  • 78 percent emerged
  • 70 percent good to excellent

Planting progress continues to slow as most states near completion. Fifteen of 18 planting states are over 90 percent complete with North Carolina being the first to reach 100 percent. Planting is up five points from last week, four points over the 5-year average, and 29 points above last season’s pace. Pennsylvania made the most progress, planting 33 percent of the crop. North Dakota is also the furthest behind their average pace, trailing the 5-year average by 15 points. Topsoil moisture is adequate throughout the Midwest and Plains states.  The condition of the corn crop improved, climbing four points to 74 percent in the good to excellent…
