The FDA reported to Congress last week, and very little useful information can be gleaned from this most recent round of guidance.  The report emphasized that the agency continues to lack comprehensive data on various aspects of CBD safety.  The agency performed some potency and safety testing in the years leading up to the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, and another round in 2019. Products identified for 2019 testing included those marketed with disease claims and products intended for vulnerable populations. Products were marketed as tinctures/oils, capsules/powders, edibles, beverages, and pet treats or food.

 

The agency found that 33% of the products they tested contained within 20% of advertised potency, and further found that 4 of 10 products without specific potency information contained no CBD.  They did not find elevated heavy metals in the samples, in contrast to the recent testing…
