Looking at hempseed acreage that was released yesterday in the August Crop Report from FSA, it is clear that there is industry confusion with the seed and hempseed segment. As mentioned in yesterday’s bulletin, The Jacobsen adopted the above nomenclature (hemp seed/hempseed) one year ago, to reduce the confusion while reporting hemp prices. We believe that a portion of the acreage registered with FSA in 2020 as “seed”, is in fact hempseed for grain.
Here’s a snapshot of current counties showing registered acreage with “grain” listed as intended use. The total acreage listed for grain is 6,559.
