The US is voting today, and the electorate will choose the next President, as well as congressional seats in some 34 states.  For many years, polling was a reliable barometer of the election, and analysts were able to predict outcomes on election nights, before the West Coast went to sleep, and sometimes, the East Coast.  Then Bush v. Gore happened, when SCOTUS settled a contentious recount in Florida, in favor of George W.
