Cattle Slaughter Forecast Lower

Hide prices remain steady to start the week. Offers have begun to go out today and will continue into tomorrow. A number of sellers reported a decent week of sales, last week, at slightly higher prices and generous volumes. Container shortages remain a growing concern with the lack of availablity continuing to press on exporters.

The Week’s Slaughter Forecast

The Jacobsen slaughter forecast for this week is 655,000 head, and if realized, will be 12,900 head less than the same week last year when it was 667,900.

Cattle slaughter finished last week 653,000 head, down 1.5 percent from a year ago. Over the next six weeks, slaughter is forecasted at an average of 610,000 head, down an average of 5.5 percent from the prior six weeks and down 1.5 percent compared to last year.
