DCO Prices Rise on Tight Supply

Four cars of renderer bleachable fancy tallow (BFT) traded higher today on a Chicago basis. The packer BFT market was quiet, but there is plenty of interest to buy at the moment with minimal offerings. Most of the sellers are showing limited January volume, if any at all. Yellow grease prices moved higher today, following the choice white market higher. Feed and fuel demand remains strong, although some of the non-California market affiliated players are pushing back on price. Distillers corn oil (DCO) prices were higher as well as strong demand continues in the face of tight supply and the prospect of further decreases in production.

The EIA estimated ethanol production at 941,000 barrels per day for the week ending January 8th. Production is off 11.4 percent from 2020 levels and down 7.7 percent from the prior three year average. Gasoline demand was estimated at 316.3 million gallons by the EIA, up slightly from the prior week’s estimate but down 7.3 percent…
