The mass influx of young people to agriculture is unprecedented. Hemp has inspired a new generation of farmers that are finding their way to agriculture via numerous pathways. Some are leveraging their inheritance or savings; others are returning home to cultivate ground owned by their families. Hemp has also been attractive to existing farm kids, and helped to inspire some of their parents, and even grandparents. Hemp prices have been a barrier to short-term growth, but long-term projects that are congruent with a farm’s overall plans may offer attractive income diversification.
For scaled production agriculture, hemp is appealing for different reasons than to a small farmer.
