The US hide market began the week with active bidding for material. Sales, for the most part, remainin firm on prices. Jumbo Heavy Texas Steer have been quoted up another dollar from Friday’s trading levels. However, shipping containers continue to pile up as demand for goods from Asia are high.

Over the next six weeks the average weekly head count is 645,000, up 2 percent from the prior six week average and 4 percent from prior three-year average. The harvest is forecast at 655,000 head this week before falling to 640,000 head the last two weeks of March and the…
