Sustainability of Polyester & Synthetic Fibers Under Question

The majority of hide sellers’ offering lists will be released tonight. Some packer’s offers contain a variety of items at higher prices than the previous trading week. A few selections are offered for April and May shipment. Leather prices for footwear tanners continue to be under discussion and concern. Many brands are expressing resistance to the higher prices and the frequency of leather price renegotiation. 

There was minimal change in Federal Reserve Economic Data (FRED) for the polyester Producer Price Index (PPI), which closed the first quarter (Q1) of 2021 almost 1 point higher than Q1 of 2020. Polyester is a commonly used synthetic fiber which has carried the image of being a sustainable alternative to other materials used in the fashion industry. Recently, this image has been questioned and has raised concern of the environmental friendliness of other synthetic fibers.
