Corn and SBO Drops Pull Fat Prices Lower

Eight cars of packer grade bleachable fancy tallow (BFT) traded steady to lower today on a Chicago basis. Renderer BFT was quiet with no offers reported before close. Choice white grease traded lower out of the Missouri River market and in a wide range. Pressure from the moves lower in corn and soybean oil pushed bids substantially lower to start the week. Sellers have acquiesced to a degree but have yet to fully cross the spread to the low side of the bids. Outside of the BFT market, traded volume was smaller compared to a typical Tuesday with most taking a wait-and-see approach.

Distillers corn oil (DCO) did trade lower for the nearby position. Again, the soybean oil market was the catalyst for lower prices, but reports on forward sales have been non-existent. Bids for July and August shipments are lower, but sellers are not motivated to sell at the lower…
