Biodiesel Export Volume Exceeds Import Volume for Second Consecutive Month
The US imported 13 million gallons of biodiesel during May while exporting 24.8 million gallons. Exports exceeded imports for the second time in as many months. Export volume is now exceeding import volume for the year. May exports were 18.5 percent above April and 17.7 percent below May of 2020. Imports were 38 percent below April and 34 percent below May of 2020, according to the US Census Bureau. Import volume is off to a slow start and trails that of 2020 by 22 percent through May. Export volume continues at a solid and is 25 percent over the 2020 pace through May.
The United States averaged 17 million gallons of imports per month during 2020 while exporting 12 million gallons. The average through May of 2021 is 13.7 million gallons for imports versus 14.3 million gallons for exports. Imports of 68.6 million gallons are…
