Hide Prices Steady, Export Shipments Increase 75 Percent

Trading in the US hide market was sluggish for Thursday, which is typically the most active day of the week. The trades that were concluded were driven by US automotive tanners that purchased Heavy Native Steers and Butt Branded Steers at similar prices to last trading levels. Heavy Texas Steers were sold overseas up $2 from the last trading level. Demand is firm, but most buyers resist paying higher prices. Packers reported increased shipment volumes from a few automotive tanners in the US.
