Hempseed Belt Remains Hot and Dry

The hempseed belt that stretches from the US Northern Plains into the Canadian Prairie Provinces has contended with especially hot and dry growing conditions this year.  Hempseed crops here will suffer some yield loss in 2021, especially dryland hemp.  Extreme heat will test crops over the coming week.  The scale represents departure from average in degrees F. The outlook for rain – in Saskatchewan particularly – is bleak.  South of the border, eastern North Dakota is also enduring drought conditions this year, and we continue to speculate that rising hempseed prices may result from reduced yield.  We believe that carryover in Canada has been on the high side, helping them to mitigate any issues relate to supply.
