Hide buyer interest continued today with steer and dairy cow trades steady to $1 down. Buyer’s bids continue to test the market about $6-8 down and at these levels, the buyers expect counteroffers. There is moderate demand for material, but most buyers are looking for discounts or immediate shipment.

For week ending August 26, export sales for 2021 marketing year increased 52 percent to 530,914 from 349,603 and shipments decreased 27 percent to 552,325 from 752,548. Sales for marketing year 2021 totaled 17,123,794—mostly all hides. The average year-to-date weekly trends for federally inspected slaughter were 640,372, total export sales were 503,641 and total export shipments were 516,273.
