Cannabis Shoulders Heavier Regulatory Burden than Alcohol

The legalization of hemp cultivation in late 2018 triggered all kinds of friction between federal hemp policy and various bureaucracies at the federal and state level. Policy alignment at various levels of government were – and still are – a major priority for agencies striving to comport with the new cannabis reality.

Because that is what it is, cannabis, insofar as how it is perceived, regardless of any legislation defining legal hemp.  Cannabinoid hemp is still so closely tied with MJ that the only meaningful change for cannabinoid producers could be the federal legalization of MJ. Illicit MJ uncovered at dozens of Oregon “hemp” grows this summer did nothing to change perceptions of hemp in the minds of Oregon residents and legislators.  ∆8-THC has also contributed to eroded support for hemp throughout the US.
